- The Asus ROG Flow X16 is the company’s latest laptop that combines high-end gaming hardware with a hybrid form factor.
- Starting at ₹1,71,990, the ROG Flow X16 is tailor-made for gamers, professional users and creative creators looking for performance and portability.
- If you’re looking for a 2-in-1 gaming laptop with a beautiful display and high-end gaming hardware, the ROG Flow X16 is worth considering.
Gaming laptop design focuses on cramming hardware inside a laptop, but with the ROG Flow X16, Asus has taken a different approach. ROG Flow X16 combines high-end gaming hardware with a hybrid form factor. It’s got a touchscreen that can rotate through a full 360 degrees, and that’s a smart move from Asus because it means the X16 Flow can function as a very large tablet and can be used in tent mode or stand mode along with a game controller.
ROG has been a top recommendation from my side for users involved in heavy duty gaming, video editing and multitasking. After using the ROG Flow X16 for a month, it seems that this 2-in-1 gaming laptop deserves a recommendation. But note that this technology does not come at a reasonable price, it is priced on the premium side.

The design and build display of Asus ROG Flow X16
Being a gaming laptop the Asus ROG Flow X16 is sleek considering the fact that it packs, a large 16-inch display. Its impressive dimensions of 35.5 x 24.3 x 1.94cm with a weight of 2.10Kg make it one of the thinnest gaming laptops available in the market. The Asus ROG Flow X16 is a more portable option than the ASUS ROG Strix G17 and other competing gaming laptops with the same feature set. However, the laptop isn’t very useful without the massive 240W charger that comes with it. So if you want to play anywhere to your full potential, you need to carry weight too. But if you commute every day to the office, you can do away with that heavy charger.
In terms of build quality, the ROG Flow X16 does not consist, the exterior of the laptop uses a mixture of aluminum and magnesium alloys. The lid has a nice lined texture that feels smooth and premium to the touch. ROG Flow X16 has a solid metal hinge design that allows you to smoothly open the cover and flip the screen 360 degrees.
Asus has given a textured carbon-like finish on the back of the lid and on the palm, along with premium branding on the lid, which looks pretty cool, in my opinion. The laptop also has a smooth and premium finish surrounding the keyboard with a textured finish.
ROG Nebula’s 16-inch HDR display, with QHD resolution and 165Hz refresh rate, is a visual delight no matter what you’re doing. I tried everything, from gaming to watching movies and office work that included document editing and photo editing, and the display never failed to impress me. Also, the color accuracy is pretty amazing in the ROG X16 Flow. The display supports HDR and Dolby Vision and, at a peak brightness of 1,100 nits, provides a good viewing and gaming experience in average daylight. ROG Flow X16 is also equipped with a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut that aims to improve color gradation, accuracy and tone, which can be seen while playing games. It’s one of the best displays on a gaming laptop.
The 360-degree hinge design allows you to use ROG Flow X16 in different orientations, including tablet, stand and tent modes. In addition, the interchangeable mechanism is useful for most gamers: flip the cover, set it up in a tent or standing position, and use it like a mobile screen with a game controller.
In my opinion, the ROG Flow X16 strikes the perfect balance between work and play, thanks to its touchscreen and 360-degree hinge design.
Keyboard and trackpad
The keyboard on the Flow X16 is almost identical to what we saw on the ASUS ROG Strix G17. The keyboard is good for gaming and typing because the keys are evenly spaced, reducing travel time, but it lacks a dedicated numpad. The keyboard also features a single-zone RGB backlit keyboard with preset modes and different brightness levels. ASUS Armory case volume controls and hotkeys are placed separately above the keyboard for ease of functionality.
The trackpad is fast and responsive, and it supports multi-touch gestures. But while playing games, I would recommend attaching an external mouse.
Asus ROG Flow X16 performance
The ROG Flow X16 is available in three variants, and the one I used sports an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS Mobile processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti graphics card. Specs wise, the ROG Flow X16 is a gaming powerhouse. I’ve been playing graphics-intensive games like Sniper Elite 5, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, Halo and more, and the Ryzen 9 has done a good job so far.
Further, I tested a bunch of AAA titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Watch Dogs: Legion and Far Cry 6 on ultra settings with HDR on, and the results were impressive.
Aside from gaming, I threw almost everything at the Asus ROG Flow X16, which included opening documents in Office and Chrome along with multiple tabs and apps running in the background, photo editing, and the ROG Flow X16 didn’t let me down.
I used the ROG Flow X16 for extended gaming hours, and in my use, I felt the laptop heat up, but thanks to ROG’s force-freeze-cooling technology, there was no lag. Also, the keyboard doesn’t get too hot.
Asus has placed an exhaust fan behind the cover to maintain airflow and keep it cool during prolonged use, and it works well as intended.
Audio and battery
The Asus ROG Flow X16 features a 4-speaker system with Smart Amplifier Technology and Dolby Atmos technology, and it delivers good sound in most scenarios. Also, Dolby Atmos gives you preset equalization settings that can be adjusted according to your preferences. But, if you want to enjoy real sound while playing games, I recommend using headphones because of the scary fan noise.
The Asus ROG Flow X16 has a 90WHrs, 4S1P, 4-cell Li-ion battery. I used the laptop for casual browsing, including emailing and using Slack, along with the refresh rate on, which lasted for two hours. Without a 240W charging brick, don’t think about gaming on the Asus ROG Flow X16.
After using it for months and knowing the high specs it offers, the Asus ROG Flow X16 doesn’t seem too expensive. It is made specifically for gamers, professional users and creative creators looking for performance and portability.
ROG Nebula’s stunning 16-inch HDR display, and thin and light profile make it highly portable. Additionally, the touchscreen is ideal for creative developers as it comes with stylus support.
