Tata Power on Friday announced to develop around 10,000 MW of renewable electricity, mainly solar power, over the next five years in Rajasthan.

“Tata Power plans to have 10,000 MW of renewable electricity in the state (Rajasthan) over the next five years,” the company said in a statement.

At the ongoing Invest Rajasthan conference in Jaipur, it announced that it plans to develop up to 8,000 MW of utility projects, 1,000 MW of rooftop solar and 1,50,000 solar pumps in the next five years in the state.

Tata Power, with its wholly-owned subsidiary Tata Power Solar, will expand its presence in Rajasthan to produce clean energy through solar energy.

The company employs more than 4,500 people in the state, and its expansion projects will generate employment for more than 6,000-8,000 people in the next five years.

“Both in terms of potential and current achievements, Rajasthan today has emerged as an example of green energy generation through solar power. I am delighted to be here at the Invest Rajasthan summit,” said Dr Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD, Tata Power.

“With its already solid approach to government, Tata Power is fully poised to future-proof Rajasthan and realize its full potential and emerge as the country’s green powerhouse. We will continue to build on all three industries — EPC, solar pump and rooftop solar — to benefit farmers, businesses and ordinary citizens of this border country,” he added.

Tata Power currently has a portfolio of 4,939 MWp. So far, Tata Power has commissioned 2,066 MW in Rajasthan and about 2,873 MW of solar projects are under construction, which will be completed in the next 12-24 months.

TP Ajmer Distribution Ltd, a unit of Tata Power, has completed 5 years of operations and has improved the customer experience in Ajmer.

Tata Power has ensured safe and reliable supply in Ajmer and has also achieved AT & C (Aggregate Technical and Commercial) loss reduction from 22 percent to 9 percent.

The company is looking forward to the possibility of power distribution in various other cities of the state under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model and serving the citizens of Rajasthan with quality electricity.

As far as solar pumps are concerned, Tata Power plans to set up about 1,50,000 pumps in the next five years in the state.

The company has so far installed nearly 21,600 solar pumps in Jaipur, Hanumangarh, Ganganagar, Jalore and Bikaner.

Tata Power with its rooftop services has an installed capacity of 65 MW in Rajasthan.

The company has been doing extensive industrial belt work like marble, granite and stone crushing etc in Rajasthan located in areas like Ajmer, Sirohi, Rajsamand, Jalore and Makrana.

Through its various rooftop facilities, Tata Power has installed over 20 MW of industrial rooftops. This installation resulted in a cumulative savings of approx 20 million per year for customers.

Tata Power is also working to establish a robust EV charging infrastructure in the state to enable a rapid transition to electric mobility. The company has installed more than 1,100 domestic chargers and 100 public chargers in Rajasthan.

In the next few years, Tata Power plans to install 10,000 EV charging points in the state.
