The European Commission hosts the EU Energy Day at COP27 | Whuff News


The European Commission is organizing a special EU Energy Day on 14 November 2022 on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. It will consist of a series of 6 high-level conferences dealing with issues related to renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable change, and will be hosted in the EU Pavilion of COP27. Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson will be among the speakers, along with representatives of EU strategic partners, especially the World Bank, IEA, IRENA, International Solar Alliance, and the German Environment Agency.

The Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, said:

In the context of the ongoing energy crisis, it is more important than ever to provide a platform for such a broad international debate on our most pressing issues within the medium to long term climate change context.

This year’s EU Energy Day will include the following sessions:

  • Opening of the EU Energy Day: Accelerating the green transition to energy without an energy crisis
  • Delivering on the Glasgow commitments: Towards inclusive and positive change
  • Energy efficiency as a valuable resource – Increasing energy efficiency in the economy and renovating buildings
  • Accelerating solar energy: A ribbon in time
  • Empowering the energy transition: Renewable hydrogen trading and partnerships for a carbon-free future
  • Digitizing for sustainability – Accelerating our sustainability agenda and clean energy transition

Attendance will be in person, but online participation is possible in the digital session.

Background

Launched for the first time in 2016, the EU Energy Day concept has proven to be one of the success stories of EU engagement with international stakeholders at the COP and other international forums.
